Best HTC phone I’ve owned
I’ve had htc phones for a long time, my last one before this was the HTC 10 which I loved but I decided to upgrade once the battery was knackered. The camera is the best htc have made so far (at least that I’ve had but I also think it’s better than my husband’s U11) , I used to get their phones for the sound quality, innovation, customizability and design but never the camera, it was usually ok or a little below average which was not usually an issue for me as it was a time where picture taking with phones was not as important as it is now. But for real surprisingly the camera is now one of this phones best features! I get excellent photographs and videos are crisp with great audio quality. The phone is super snappy and hasn’t struggled with any task and I am enjoying the lack of a notch. I used a phone temporarily that had a Waterdrop notch and rounded corners but I just couldn’t enjoy videos as much however small they make them, the notch is distracting and the round corners look unnatural to me as I’m so used to rectangles also it sometimes cut off things in the corners. Anyways it is really nice to have a wide screen without the notch trend spoiling videos. I also have gotten used to the more natural colors in HTC superlcd screens so am enjoying using it. Everything looks very sharp and does not look oversaturated or like they have a filter over them like some amoled screens do. Don’t get me wrong I like the contrast in amoled screens but sometimes it seems overprosessed so I am pleased to be back with a superlcd screen. Audio is much louder and clearer than my htc 10 and I am happy with the USB C headphones. I was reluctant to loose the 3.5mm jack but the quality makes up for it and I do have a good pair of Bluetooth headphones I could use if charging. Edge sense 2 is awesome and I am loving the tap for one handed mode and the smart rotate feature. Again htc has come up with innovative and useful features I didn’t even realize how useful untill I used it. The double tap to shrink screen can be over sensitive so I tried getting rid of it for a day but I found I missed it so now I just handle the phone more carefully. Battery is average but getting better I think since I put adaptive battery on and I rarely use the brightness at full wack. I’m a heavy user and use battery saver mode at about 10-20% and highest I’ve been getting is 5 and a half hours screen on time on a single charge. Average is now between 4 (going on 5) hour something to 5 hour something depending on usage, I do think adaptive battery mode helped as it seemed not to last as long before, I can’t tell if it’s software as I upgraded to pie on the first day. I also cannot yet tell about how good brightness is in direct sunlight as I have been indoors a lot for winter but I think the screen could be brighter. I do wish this phone had full gesture control instead of a navigation bar or at least the option to use either but tbh I’ve gotten used to it. I was also plesently surprised that I have not run into some of the things reviewers complained about I have had no issues with the buttons and now prefer them over physical ones and I can easily double tap the power button to launch camera (I saw a review that said it was impossible with the new buttons which is not true at all) although there has probably been a button update since they reviewed… either way it’s not a problem now. The device is beautiful I love the glass and the color changes depending the angle, it is more of a deep pink color (which I hoped) than red FYI. It is a smudge magnet though so I use a clear case and it is a GLASS phone (BIGGEST ISSUE) so I wouldn’t dare not use a case. I got one with corner protection and raised lips and it still works with edge sense (though tapping and holding gesture sensors work better without it). The in the box case is good for avoiding smudges and using edge sense but I wouldn’t use it for everyday use unless you’re very careful as I doubt it would stop cracks if you dropped the phone the wrong way. This model DOES work with 4G lte but check your network to be sure. I made sure I looked up the bands of this phone and the bands for my network so I have had great speedy internet. All in all this is a great device so far.Pros:CameraSoundPerformanceDesignInnovation (with edge sense 2 & edge launcher, plus usual htc sense)CustomizationConsLack of 3.5mm jack (though doubt it’ll be missed for long)All round glass design (beautiful but not hardy like metal. I have no scratches or cracks yet but I’d be amazed if it can last a few years without any)Average batteryScreen could be brighter
