I’ve gone through four portable AC units in 15 years, primarily for my bedroom’s second-story heat. Venting has always been tricky without gaps. However, this was a breeze to install Thanks to the included foam tape , It fits perfectly and is highly recommended!

It’s not perfect but it works
This plastic extension kit for portable A/C comes with 2 outer plates and two inner plates, and you connect them by using the provided butterfly screws. The kit also includes a 5.9â adapter for the exhaust hose and a roll of air sealing tape that is 3/8â wide. Putting it together is easy. It is just a matter of extending the plates until you have the right length for your door. The maker has a good instructional video on how to do it on the product page. My only problem came when it was time to use the adapter. The end of the exhaust hose turned out a tiny bit too large because it has a plastic ring (to which the A/C window adapter attaches); therefore, I couldnât use the adapter that came with the kit. I resolved the issue by sliding the vent panel that came with my A/C into the vent plate of the kit and then tape the two together. It may not look very professional but it works. The extension kit is on the lightweight side so sometimes when itâs windy, it dislodges itself from the door. I didnât use the air sealing tape that came with the kit. I bought a slightly wider foam air seal tape from the local hardware store. Even with the tape on, there are still thin gaps because the inner plates are slightly narrower than the outer plates. But Iâm okay with that because this extension kit has proven to be a good alternative to trying to put two window kits together to cover the length of a sliding door. And It certainly looks better too.

It Fits!
I dont have any windows in my room so i needed an attachment for the balcony door. It is a little flimsy, but with enough securing it works great. The weather tape provided kept peeling off, so i just bought my own and so far it has stayed secured. I put a strip on both the attachment and my sliding door, as well as a few pieces behind the attachment to keep it from wobbling. I recommend you get some double sided mounting tape to secure it even more. I used the 5.9âattachment for an A5407-8K air conditioner.

This does not fit a BLACK+DECKER 14,000 BTU Air Conditioner Portable for Room up to 700 Sq. Ft., 3-in-1 AC Unit, Dehumidifier, & Fan, Portable AC with Installation Kit & Remote Control. The hose size is correct at 5.1 but the adapter from hose to panel is too small on the panel side, the hose does connect. I had to force the panels from the A/C unit into this one in order to not have to return it. It works and looks fine, just not ideal.

This seemed like a genius idea. In the past we had fabric things that took up the whole door and you had to unzip it to get outside. You also couldn’t see through them, which very annoying.I bought this back in April when I first saw them. I swear there were not two sizes listed or else I would have measured our exhaust tube. I ended up with the small one and we have the big tube.My the time we went to install it, we past the return window. I communicated with the seller through Amazon messaging. I asked if there was an adaptor. He asked if the product number of the bigger one would work and I said yes. Heard nothing back. Finally asked him about if he was offering to switch it out or not and he said they come from China and there are no adaptors. Why did he keep emailing me if there was nothing he could do?Finally it got hot here are we went to install it. It’s a complete joke and not in a funny way. The plastic is flimsy and the skinnier “inner” panels that slip into the wider “outer” ones have an extra quarter to half inch of open space after you close the sliding door against it.We could not get it to stand up on its own so we finally taped it to the plastic frame around the sliding glass door.Our tube turned out to be extra complicated because our main tube was the bigger size but it had a size down joint on it to the smaller size. It just wouldn’t connect with the provided out-vent part that clicks into the hole in this product. So we taped them together too.We used their weather stripping to try to close up the gaps. It fell off so I ordered a better quality product on Amazon. The gaps between the smaller and larger with plastic sheets sometimes required two layers so we could close the sliding glass door against it and have minimal gaps. Turns out that that stuff doesn’t like to be taped in two layers together either, so some of that isn’t staying on. More tape is probably in the future.I REALLY want this to work and like it. I’m surprised there are so many positive reviews. I’m usually pretty good at making something like this work (even if it needs to be finessed) that I was super frustrated. So, thanks to a lot of tape, it’s doing its job and next summer I’ll look for another brand. Maybe someone makes it out of aluminum or something other than flappy plastic that will have more “standing” power.
