Customers say

Customers like the size, value, and ease of installation of the air conditioner. For example, they mention it’s small enough to turn it around and use it as a heater, it does not take up hardly any space, and it’ll save you money on central air. That said, some complain about the remote control. Opinions are mixed on quality, temperature, noise, and performance.

    Great for small rooms
This A/C unit works great for my daughter’s room and does not make a lot of noise. It cools the 10×10 room with ease and only runs 3-4 hours a day during the summer. All the hardware is included and the instructions are there if you need them.

An absolute BEAST of a little A/C unit!!!!
Wow!!! I got this small window unit (intended to cool only 150 sq. feet of space) for the living room of my apartment to replace an older GE unit of the same specs that had died after only 1 year of use. I had honestly never heard of the brand Midea before and was a little skeptical, but noticed all the positive reviews and decided to take a chance on this. So glad I did! Despite its small size and specs for “only” having enough BTUs to cool 150 sq. feet of space, this little unit is an ABSOLUTE BEAST. (Note: I am using it in conjunction with a 10,000 BTU A/C on the 2nd floor of my apartment.) My entire apartment is around 1,200 sq. feet. By using a 10,000 BTU A/C (which happens to be an LG brand) on the upstairs floor and this 5,000 BTU Midea unit on the 1st floor, I am able to maintain my entire apartment at a consistent temp of 66 degrees…..even when it is 90 degrees outside. Pretty impressive! The Midea definitely outperforms other brands of the same BTU that I have used in past summers. For example, with previous (other brand) 5,000 BTU units and the exact same configuration (i.e. – a 10,000 BTU unit running upstairs and a different brand of 5,000 BTU running downstairs), I have only been able to get the temp in the apartment down to 68-70 degrees, depending on how hot it is outside. Again, the Midea — with the temp outside between 85-90 the past few days — has been solidly maintaining the temp in my apartment at a crisp 66 degrees: pretty impressive! I am supposing that when the temp outside rises to 100+, it may creep up to 68 or so (we shall see), but even so, this little unit is already performing way better than any other previous brand of the same BTU. The other thing I love about the Midea is the speed at which it brings the temp down the first 2-3 degrees. Consistently each day, when I start the unit, the temp in my apartment comes down by 2-3 degrees within the first 20-40 minutes. That is fast! Thereafter, I have observed that the Midea continues to bring the temp down by about 2 degrees per hour, bottoming out at 65-66 degrees, a very respectable low temp. This holds true even when we are cooking in the kitchen 20 feet away, or working out in the living room (generating body heat, etc.). After such a positive initial experience with this brand, I have purchased 2 more A/C units by Midea — one other 5,000 BTU, and also a 6,000 BTU. I highly recommend this brand for the price. As I said before, it clearly outperforms other brands at similar BTU levels. Only drawback is it’s a bit noisy, but honestly I will take noisy for this level of cool comfort.

Good A/C, can fit smaller window with modification
This A/C unit works well, but it does not have any temperature indications on it. Cooling goes from “more cool” to “less cool” like a refrigerator. If you want to set it to 72 degrees, there isn’t a way to know exactly where that is on the dial.I purchased this unit to fit an 18″ window on my shed. The product description states that this A/C will fit a window that is 23″ or wider, but the dimensions of the unit itself are much smaller than that. Like most window units, this A/C has an “accordion” piece on each side which seals against the window frame. By cutting off some of the plastic frame on one of these pieces, I was able to easily make it fit my 18″ window, and it could probably fit windows that were even smaller, perhaps 16″ or narrower.Overall, the unit works well, and cools my 10×12 shed (120sqft) acceptably, even though it is not insulated and is poorly sealed. I’m happy with the unit for the price that I paid.

    A lifesaver!!!
We got this little beast right before the first heat wave of summer for our bedroom. Keeps us cool at night and gives us a nice hum of white noise. It took two people to figure it out and install it. After we laid all the pieces out the directions made more sense. Usually we turn the cool to max level 7 to turn on the condenser and keep it on low cool and it chills our smallish master bedroom very nicely. A couple of complaints though. Water does pool in the back of the unit outside the window and i wish there was a drain plug or a hose to use to drain it. The plastic window curtain that fits around the unit is a little flimsy and doesn’t make a seal. We actually duct taped around it. Fabulous I know but when it’s hot I will pull out the duct tape. Once winter hits in Oregon we will take it out of the window. But we have really appreciated it all summer long.

    Very COLD!
I am amazed that a unit this small can cool my RV. I needed 110 voltage and am so happy to find this on Amazon. Highly recommend.

Amazing air conditioner! Buy one of these!
In years past and with summers getting warmer and warmer each year we have a main air conditioner for our home but it is essential, to have a small AC in the bedroom. I wanted one that has variable coolness but I also like the air conditioners that have a fan with no AC.This unit is very simple and very small. Easy to install in the window and the most amazing thing is the amount of air it pushes through without all of the helicopter noise. That awful noise that sounds like you got a crop duster outside your window. If there were any concerns or cons about the unit, there aren’t any. I’m used to buttons and this baby has knobs. One turn for the cool fan one more turn for cool air conditioning. Turn the knob the other way you got high cool fan and one more click you have high air conditioning. It’s that simple. We use this at night when it’s hot as hell outside as an air conditioner otherwise we simply turn on cool fan and draw in the cold air from outside. It’s almost impossible to live without an air conditioner in the summer in greater parts of the United States. We live in Oregon and our summers are about 8 weeks. But it’s also warm enough to have an air conditioner another couple of months out of the year.I highly recommend this air conditioner.

    COOLS LR, DR & KITCHEN
Great little unit! I just leave it on from 8am to 11pm at night. Cools entire area, save money on central AC. it’s my second one, have one in my BR still works great after two years! $159 is a great price too, so I highly recommend this one!

I didn’t use this for almost 2 years when I bought it, I was worried but when I finally did it worked perfectly, has held up an entire summer. I’ve installed a lot of AC units and it’s as easy as it gets.

MIDEA MAW05M1BWT Window Air Conditioner, 5000 BTU: This unit is a nice small size but it is rather noisy. It is significantly noisier than my older, similar sized Forest Air A/C unit (be prepared to turn up the TV). The User’s Manual covers several models and shows a remote control; however, this small model does NOT have a remote control. It has two control knobs on the front: one knob for temperature and one knob to select Off, Fan or Cool (Hi or Lo). The unit monitors electrical current and there is a breaker button on the power plug that cuts off the power, and a reset button that turns the power back on.

I bought this air conditioner in April and when I installed it at the end of May, I could see that it doesn’t work properly. It just do a lot of noise without cooling the air. It was a waste of money. I don’t know if is a problem with my unit or a problem with the model, but if you buy it, test it on the same day to return it in case of bad work like mine.
